Dr. Barbara Hooks is a licensed clinical psychologist. At HeartWork Psychology®, she conducts psychological assessments with individuals across the life span to answer a wide range of referral questions. In addition, she provides individual psychotherapy to adolescent and adult clients struggling with anxiety, depression, addiction, life transitions, stress, and issues related to gender identity, amongst other presenting concerns. Her approach is collaborative, culturally-sensitive, and grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Her main aim is to help clients get in touch with what matters most and help them actively build lives that are personally meaningful.
Dr. Hooks has extensive experience working in medical settings across different levels of care (inpatient, PHP, outpatient) as well as in community mental health. Her dissertation research focused on affirmative care working with trans* identified individuals. She spends her free time exploring meditation, soaking up nature, and spending time with her family.
